Hi I'm Melissa from Anglican High. The past 2 fieldtrips have shown me how the people in Beijing cope with crowds in their public transport.
A bus attendant is always around to supervise the crowd. He or she is in charge of ticketing and when the bus gets crowded, ask the passengers to move to the middle of the bus. She would also try to ensure that most of the elderly are properly seated during their journey.
People in Beijing are mostly very considerate. They would move to the middle of the bus automatically upon boarding, allowing others to board the bus with ease. They are also considerate as they move away from the bus quickly allowing the passengers to alight and for the bus to leave faster.
Buses in Beijing has opened my eyes as to what we can do to ensure an efficent bus system.
Do you know that public transport is so cheap in Beijing? You will be surprised to know that the further you travel, the cheaper the cost. And to get on the bus, you need only 40cents (rmb) if you have the card. No matter how far you travel, it is still 40cents. The trains are at 2rmb.
Why do you think this is the case?
